Diagonal Diary: The Racing Kelpie, a pink Porsche, and all set for Snett
Mon 20 May: It’s race week for Team Diagonal! The next instalment of the 2024 season for our client the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) is nearly upon on us as rounds seven, eight, and nine take place at Snetterton this weekend. The year’s six races to-date have produced four different winners, and eight drivers have already stood on the podium.
The BTCC’s supporting cast in Norfolk will include the Porsche Sprint Challenge Great Britain, the series in which our client Caitlin Wood will be the only woman to compete this season. The Australian racing driver’s championship debut is not to be missed and, thanks to a landmark partnership, the pink livery of the Barbie Sports Ambassador’s Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport will be easy to follow.
It promises to be an action-packed weekend and final preparations are well underway for our team who will be on-site at Snetterton to capture all the action.
Tue 21 May: Back-to-back meetings with our clients to start the day. The first is with Asetek SimSports – the world-leading sim-racing hardware business – to discuss plans for their team’s visit to London at the start of June. That will include a very special media event which we are excited to tell you about soon!
Straight from a Danish company to another Australian racing driver. Pat Heuzenroeder will continue his maiden GB3 Championship campaign at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps the weekend after next (1-2 June) and this is a chance to discuss and refine our content plan for his third race weekend of the season. Pat’s brand-new YouTube vlog, ‘The Racing Kelpie’ – which provides a behind-the-scenes look at the life of a GB3 racer – has been launched. Watch, subscribe, and follow Pat on his journey!
A new Motor Sport column by Diagonal MD Matt Bishop is published. This week, The Bish recalls the sensational weekend when Jarno Trulli claimed pole position at The Monaco Grand Prix – which takes place this weekend – and then went on to win for the first and only time in Formula 1.
Wed 22 May: We’re in our City of London offices for a busy day of meetings. Among those in the diary is our client EventR – the app designed by a team of software developers led by former Formula 1 team principal, Otmar Szafnauer, to simplify team travel. Their team is set for a busy summer, finalising a raft of collaborations with professional sporting organisations, as well as updates to their app which will open new markets for them and new comms/PR opportunities for us. We will orchestrate, distribute, and amplify all of EventR’s upcoming announcements via mainstream and digital/social media. Watch this space!
Thu 23 May: Outreach to journalists for a media day we’ll be hosting with Pat Heuzenroeder following his upcoming race weekend at Spa, is followed by the release of the latest episode of ‘And Colossally That’s History’ – the podcast co-hosted by Diagonal MD Matt Bishop. In the final episode of series one, Matt and Richard Williams wax lyrical about the Hesketh chapter of James Hunt’s remarkable Formula 1 career.
A LinkedIn article by EventR recounts their team’s recent trip to the Event Tech Live show in Las Vegas. Read all about it here.
Fri 24 May: The race weekend previews are written and our team is on the road to Snetterton. You can watch all three BTCC races live on ITV and TikTok on Sunday at 11:35, 14:25, and 17:10. Caitlin Wood’s three Porsche Sprint Challenge GB races take place at 14:55 on Saturday, and 10:05 and 15:05 on Sunday. Again, you can watch live and free-to-air on ITV. Enjoy the bank holiday weekend and all of the great racing!
