Diagonal Diary: Tom’s triumph, Racing Pride, and Imola remembered
Mon 29 April: Time to debrief after an epic weekend of racing (and rain!) for our Diagonal clients. After heavy downpours delayed the start of the first race day of the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) season at Donington Park on Sunday, former champion Tom Ingram claimed a double triumph to top the championship standings.
Down the road at Silverstone, Australian racing driver Pat Heuzenroeder was due to race twice in the GB3 Championship on Sunday. Rain reduced that schedule to a single race, but the 18-year-old took advantage of the extra time off-track by completing a round of media interviews. Diagonal MD Matt Bishop was also at Silverstone and said a few words on the stage of the Racing Pride Hub alongside Racing Pride Founder and Driver Ambassador Richard Morris.
This week marks the 30-year anniversary of the tragic death of the great Ayrton Senna so, as part of the ‘And Colossally That’s History’ podcast series co-hosted by Matt, the first of three episodes on the subject goes live.
Our Monday meeting with Prodrive focuses on planning for upcoming media interviews and the release of two special videos we’ve created to celebrate the world-leading motorsport and advanced technology business’ 40th anniversary. You’ll be able to watch them soon!
Tue 30 April: The Diagonal team heads north for a meeting with a potential client, and a new MotorSport column by our MD, Matt Bishop, provides the reading material for the journey. This week, Matt tells the extraordinary stories of four remarkable racers who, like Ayrton Senna, also lost their lives on 1 May.
Wed 1 May: On the 30th anniversary of Ayrton Senna’s death, our MD, Matt Bishop, interviews our client, Pat Heuzenroeder and his mentor, David Brabham. They talk life, racing, Australia, and Imola in 1994. That weekend, Brabs lost first his team-mate, Roland Ratzenberger, and then his hero. You can watch our interview here.
Thu 2 May: We start the day by compiling a coverage report for our client EventR – the app designed by a team of software developers led by former Formula 1 team principal, Otmar Szafnauer, to simplify team travel – following last week’s media lunch hosted by Otmar and EventR.
After that, it’s a busy day of meetings with potential clients and additions to the Diagonal team…
Fri 3 May: Eyes down for a day spent finalising pitches, editing content, ghost-writing copy, and event planning before the long bank holiday weekend.
